Excess Thinking - What is suffering?

I have found that many people object to hearing that our own thoughts cause most of our suffering. One reason some object is because they feel that 'pain and suffering' are the same thing. However, to understand suffering in 'spiritual' terms we need to use the definition of "miserable: very unhappy; full of misery." Some have defined suffering as 'Poor me." and pain as 'Ouch, that hurts.' Sometimes psychological pain can be suffering and pain..

Pain and suffering may be our biggest earthly challenge..

When you hear something referred to as 'the end of suffering', this is not to say we won't feel pain.. If we pay attention to our thinking, we would realize that much of our suffering is caused by having too much past and future thoughts.
~I do know that suffering from loss, disease, trauma or abuse may require the need of professional assistance.. I am not trying to dismiss our feelings.~

But much of our daily suffering is solely because of our 'over' thinking.. I feel we need to learn 'how the brain works'. We should not always trust our 'auto' thoughts/reactions to be in our best interest..

On the lighter side, you may understand what I am saying by reading the cartoon below...
